Memory Lane Music

I am posting this blog because of my love for older music.

From the time I was a little kid back in Brooklyn New York ( the 50's...60's..etc. ) from the Doo Wop & Oldies groups. I also have a great interest in the Big Band Era music, from the Dorsey's...Mills Bros...Sinatra and so on. Older Country & Western...Northern Soul...It just keeps going on & on.
I will be displaying information on the side bar of this blog, in the event you would like to obtain the many different artists and the music they performed. Each update will include profile of artist or groups who perform the music.
This weeks featured artists are: Little Anthony and The Imperials....
On April 4, 2009 the group had the honor of being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, by Smokey ( Bill ) Robinson. ( Formally of the Miracles )
Little Anthony and the Imperials is a  vocal group from New York, first got their start in the 1950s. Lead singer Anthony "Little Anthony" Gourdine was known for his high falsetto voice. In 1957, the group was known as the Chesters. Anthony Gourdine, a member of the Duponts, joined as The Chesters lead singer. The group was with Apollo Records for a short period of time. No hits to talk about.

In 1958 the group changed their name to the Imperials. They started recording with End Records. Their first record with End Records was Tears on my pillow, which became a giant hit for the group. The flip side of the record was Two People In The World, which also became a big hit. While listening to the songs, DJ Icon Alan Freed came up with the name ( Little Anthony )  the name stuck with the group. A song that Little Anthony didn't like, and wasn't fond of recording "Shimmy, Shimmy, Ko Ko Bop" became one their biggest hits in 1960.
I guess Little Anthony didn't think it was a song the kids would like. The next couple of years were a little slow, even though they still recorded...Then they hooked up with an old time friend Teddy Randazzo----Singer / Song Writer / Record Producer, and went over to ( Don Costa Productions ) DCP Label.

They had some real big hits on the DCP Label:

I'm on the ouside ( Looking In )
Goin out of my head
Hurt so bad
I miss you so
Take me back
Out of site, out of mind..... Just to mention a few
